The chartered accountant Kabir Rishi lives in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, with his wife Jyoti and their two children, Janhvi and Dhruv. While on vacation at their farmhouse in a secluded hill station, they get to know Vanraj Kashyap, a mysterious man. Vanraj gives Janhvi a laddu in return for her paratha. Janhvi, having consumed the laddu, now acts like a puppet, following his every order. Later, as Janhvi is in the car, Vanraj brings her another packet of biscuits and asks her to consume it when she gets to the farmhouse.

Kabir and his family begin to enjoy the home pool. Jyoti reaches out to the terrace after placing her wet phone in the rice box to dry. Vanraj was waiting for her at the door of the farmhouse. Vanraj says the battery on his phone died and Jahnvi allowed him in. His presence has caused unease for the family, and Jyoti has asked Kabir to get Vanraj to leave the house. Vanraj begins by discussing Janvi's boyfriend and college with her. Janhvi is invited to play with Dhruv. Because of his discomfort with Dhruv, Vanraj begs Janhvi to put Dhruv in danger. With Dhruv, Janhvi let the swing go really high. As a result, Dhruv asks for assistance. When Jyoti and Kabir arrive, they help Dhruv get off the swing.

With Dhruv, Janhvi let the swing go really high. As a result, Dhruv asks for assistance. When Jyoti and Kabir arrive, they help Dhruv get off the swing. Janhvi is asked by Kabir to forget the incident, but Vanraj gets in the way. Vanraj refuses to go when Kabir asks him to. When Kabir tries to throw him out, Janhvi stops her father—following Vanraj's instructions—from doing so. When Kabir questions Vanraj about what he has done to Jahnvi, he replies that he has used black magic to hypnotize her and that she will follow his instructions. Jahnvi obeys Vanraj's directions to stand and sit at all times. Vanraj torments the family by giving Janhvi odd and nasty commands, ordering him to smash all the phones and telephone lines.

Vanraj requests that Kabir and Jyoti give him Jahnvi since he needs their approval to do so. Vanraj strikes Janvhi when he refuses, and Kabir then assaults him. Janhvi complies with Vanraj's command to smash Dhruv's head.

Subsequently, as Jyoti uses the phone in the rice box to call the police hotline, police arrived at the farmhouse. Vanraj tells Janvi to turn on the gas cylinder and sit over it while holding a matchstick when he notices police on the door. He threatens to instruct Jahnvi to burn the matchstick and commit suicide if Kabir and Jyoti report anything to the police. The family interacts with the police normally, and eventually the officers go.

Kabir offers to pay them money if he could spare them. Vanraj gives up, leaves the house, and declares that he is done with material possessions. He also reveals himself as a demon who wants to rule the world and thinks he is better than God. Janhvi is given instructions to hit herself repeatedly before being made to dance for him. Janhvi carried on with her dance for over an hour. Vanraj tells Janhvi to bring a knife, goes to sleep, and gives Janhvi the instruction to stab anyone who comes near. Janhvi tries to stop her father from stealing Vanraj's phone by urinating in her shorts, preventing her from having to stab him.

Finally losing patience, Jyoti grabbed the knife from Jahnvi and launched an assault on Vanraj. Later, Kabir begins hitting Vanraj after tying Jahnvi on the staircase. Vanraj gives Janhvi the order to laugh herself to death and says that she would follow his final directive till the day she dies, even if he is slain. Kabir is forced to let him leave by this. Vanraj gives Janhvi the order to murder her brother. Janhvi locked Kabir and Jyoti in the store room when they attempted to stop her. After going looking for Dhruv, she eventually located him on the terrace. In an attempt to save Dhruv, Kabir and Jyoti smash down the store room door. Dhruv was thrown from the terrace by Janhvi, but he survived despite being severely injured.

When Kabir and Jyoti realize that their kids might really die, they allow Vanraj to take Janhvi with him. Vanraj takes Janhvi with him as he leaves. While Jyoti takes Dhruv to the hospital, Kabir, who had previously installed a tracker in his cellphone, follows him to his hiding place, all while Vanraj is unaware. It is discovered that Vanraj has similarly hypnotized 108 other girls. He is ready to sacrifice them in the fire, adding Janhvi as the final member. With each black doll he tosses into the flames, he gives the girls the order to approach the fire. All of the girls will jump into the fire after he throws the final red doll. As he feels that people shouldn't have free will, this will complete the ritual that will provide him the ability to control anyone at will. When Kabir finally finds Vanraj, a single girl attacks him.Vanraj is now powerless and unable to give the girls any orders. He plays an altered version of Vanraj's voice, in which he proclaims their independence, just as the females are about to kill Kabir.

Kabir had previously recorded Vanraj telling Janhvi that his father wanted him to let her go from the home's security camera. In order to give the impression that Vanraj is telling the girls to return to normal, Kabir pieced together his remarks. After hearing the tape, the females are therefore released from his authority.

Vanraj's hostage girls are safely returned to their homes by the police, who notify Kabir that Vanraj has vanished as he and his family recover at the hospital.

One year later, Kabir can be seen delving into a secluded room, where he has indeed imprisoned Vanraj. He makes fun of Vanraj, who is speechless, for desiring power and asserts that real power originates with parents, who will do everything it takes to keep their kids safe. He claims that he is Vanraj's demon and that this is now hell. Then, leaving Vanraj to carry on with his suffering, he promises him they would get together again the next day.
